HSEvolve
My biggest passion project throughout second semester was a movie I worked on with a few of my fellow classmates. We wanted to highlight innovative learning throughout the HSE school district. To do this, we went around to classrooms and teachers all over the district and videoed their students learning the core subjects while also learning soft skills that they will use the rest of their lives. Overall, the goal of the movie is to promote this type of learning to show parents and other teachers the effectiveness and benefits of it so that someday every kid in the district will get to learn this way.
So far, we have created a trailer for the movie and have started work on the big documentary. Throughout this process we have received some fantastic opportunities. First, we have gotten to attend some meetings with over 40 important people from our district, including many teachers, principals, and the superintendent. This summer we will get to go to an Indiana Department of Education Innovation Convention and present our movie and our ideas to teachers from around the state. Lastly, we plan to have a panel night, where we will premier the movie as well as give the opportunity for parents to ask us questions about the change to innovative learning in the Hamilton Southeastern school district.
This process has taught me many things. For one, it is teaching me to get way out of my comfort zone because I have never made a professional movie and therefore I am learning many things in that field. I am also developing boldness because often times when teenagers get an idea it never fully gets accomplished because they are not bold enough to try, and this is myself included. However, being able to be so passionate about something, and actually going out and doing something about it is an experience so many people are not brave enough to do. Overall, this process has taught me so many skills and is priceless into developing me into who I am today.
